Ask the wiki

Overview

Ask the wiki answers a question in words — solely from the knowledge released to you. No world knowledge, no bypassing of permissions, no content from spaces you may not see.

The difference from search is the form of the answer. Search returns hits; here you get a sentence — with sources that lead back into the articles.

The sources are not decoration but the actual achievement: they make the answer checkable. A language model phrases things convincingly even when it is wrong — only the jump into the source decides whether the information holds.

Core tasks

Ask questions. The question is entered as a full sentence, not as a keyword.

Check the sources. Every answer lists the articles used. For information you intend to rely on, the click into the source is part of the job.

Arrive from search. When knowledge search finds nothing suitable, it points here — "Nothing suitable found?". That is the usual route, because a question is often easier to pose than a search term is to choose.

Fields in detail

This page has exactly one input field.

FieldRequiredValues / formatWhat it does
Question questionyestext, max. 2000 charactersYour question in plain language. The answer is drawn exclusively from the knowledge held in the system — with a reference to the articles it came from. If nothing is found, the assistant says so instead of inventing something.

Only what you are allowed to see is read: spaces without your access do not enter the answer. Curated spaces are cited preferentially.

Settings & permissions

  • Module module.knowledge.
  • Your permissions apply unchanged. Answers are drawn from [knowledge

spaces](doc:knowledge.spaces) you have access to — the AI is given no separate, wider view.

  • The AI has to be set up. Without provider access and the feature flags set, the function is

unavailable, see AI settings.

  • The AI assistant is the broader surface. Ask the wiki is the

knowledge-focused view of it.

FAQ & troubleshooting

The answer cites no source. Then no matching article was found. Treat the answer with corresponding caution — and write the missing article.

A colleague gets a different answer. That is normal with different access rights to knowledge spaces.

The answer is out of date. Then the underlying article is out of date. The source takes you there; the review interval exists to prevent exactly this.

The function is unavailable. Check the AI setup with your administrator — provider access and feature flags.
