Warehouse operations (WMS)
Purpose
Warehouse operations answer the question that sits between the order and the delivery note: who walks which route when — and is the right thing actually in the box at the end?
It is the working layer of the warehouse. Stock itself belongs to the product catalogue, its distribution to Multi-warehouse, the document to Shipping. What sits between them lives here.
Scope
- Pick lists as documents of their own — several orders in one walk, with stock reservation and a
walking order taken from the warehouse layout.
- Pick templates in six shapes: one list per order, single-item run, multi-order list with
consolidated quantities, two-stage with boxes, rolling "pick-to-box", and identical orders bundled.
- Clarification cases — shortages become decidable cases instead of a note in someone's head.
- Pack station with a scan check per line, parcels, a three-step weighing policy and a scale per
workplace.
- Scanner area for handhelds: pick, pack, count, put away, transfer — one step per screen, with a
queue that survives dead spots.
- Replenishment from reserve to picking bin, as a task confirmed by three scans.
- Put-away of the not-yet-located quantity, with a suggested bin.
Interplay
Orders come from Sales orders; at the end of a packing session the delivery note is created in Shipping, which also buys the label. The walking order in the warehouse comes from bin pick priority in Multi-warehouse, as do the min/max rules that replenishment is generated from. Batches, expiry dates and serial numbers are carried along while picking — see Batches & serial numbers. Labels and delivery notes reach the right device through Printing & workplaces; counting on the handheld writes into the stock take of the product catalogue.
Limits
- A pick list does not replace a document. It precedes one; what actually leaves the building is
the delivery note in shipping.
- Picking books no stock. The goods are on the cart afterwards. Booking happens when the packing
session is completed.
- Bin stock is a distribution of warehouse stock, not a second truth about quantity. Transferring
changes where goods are — not how many there are.
- No bin suggestions without multi-warehouse. Alternative picking bins require located stock;
without it the suggestion list stays empty.
- Pick templates have no screen of their own yet. They are maintained through the API and chosen
when a list is created.
- The scale belongs to the pack station, not to the handheld. Packing on a device means typing the
weight in — or having it computed.
