Manufacturers

Overview
Manufacturers are master data — and they carry the details required by the EU General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR).
That is the real reason for this surface. Anyone selling products in the EU has to be able to name the manufacturer or responsible economic operator. Maintaining those details once on the manufacturer rather than on every item is the only form in which they stay maintained.
Core tasks
Create a manufacturer. New manufacturer requires a code and a name; website and description plus the GPSR details follow. The list shows code, name, website and status.
Assign items. On the item you set the manufacturer and the manufacturer part number (MPN), see Products. The MPN is the manufacturer's number, not your SKU — keeping both side by side is the point.
Deactivate rather than delete when a brand is discontinued: items and documents still refer to it.
Fields in detail
The What it does column answers what changes in the system — not what the field is called. The grey name behind the label is the API field: the same thing runs under that name through automation, import and AI tools.
This mask is more than a list of names: for goods placed on the EU market, the manufacturer and the responsible person must be stated. What stands here appears where it is required.
Creating and editing a manufacturer
| Field | Required | Values / format | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
Code code | yes | text, max. 50 characters | The identifier articles address the manufacturer by. Do not change it once articles point at it. |
Legal name legalName | no | text, max. 200 characters | The full company name, not the brand. Precisely this belongs in the mandatory statement — "Example Ltd", not "Example". |
Responsible person in the EU responsiblePersonEu | no | text, max. 200 characters | Who within the EU stands behind the product. For manufacturers outside the EU this is the entry without which the goods may not be sold there. |
Address address | no | text | The full address of the manufacturer or the responsible person. |
Email email | no | address, max. 180 characters | Contact address for queries and notifications. |
Phone phone | no | text, max. 50 characters | Telephone contact. |
Website url | no | address, max. 255 characters | The manufacturer's site. |
Logo mediaFileId | no | image file | The manufacturer logo in the catalogue. |
Translations translations | no | details per language | How the manufacturer is presented in other languages. |
Active active | no | yes/no | Off means no longer selectable on new articles; existing ones keep it. |
Settings & permissions
- Module
module.products. - Permission
products.catalog.manage. - The code is permanent, the name changeable at any time.
- The manufacturer description appears on the item. If none is stored, the detail page says so
explicitly rather than showing an empty panel.
FAQ & troubleshooting
The item says "no manufacturer description stored". Then the text is missing on the manufacturer — not on the item.
A manufacturer cannot be selected. It is deactivated.
We are the manufacturer ourselves. Create yourself as a manufacturer and additionally set own product on the item.
Is the name enough for GPSR? No. What is required are the complete details of the responsible economic operator. Which details suffice is a question for your legal advisers — this handbook describes where the details live, not which ones are sufficient.
