Prices & units at a glance

Purpose
Four modules jointly answer one question: which price applies to whom, from which quantity, in which unit?
They are separate because they live at different speeds. A customer group outlasts years, a tier a season, a customer price an agreement. Mixed into one table, none of them would be maintainable.
Scope
- Price tiers per item — globally, per price list or per customer group.
- Customer prices as customer-specific price lists with terms per item or per category.
- Customer groups with members, price rules, price display and visibility.
- Packaging units: units of measure with dimension, base factor and decimal places; pack sizes
per item; free conversions globally or per item — per item also across dimensions.
Interplay
The order of application is determined by the commerce core, not by the individual module. Items and tax rates come from the product catalogue; promotions and vouchers intervene as well.
Limits
- No module calculates on its own. Price determination is a chain; looking at one step in
isolation does not explain the final price.
- Cross-dimension conversions only per item — globally they would have no meaning.
- The RRP stays out of it. It is a display, not a price.
- Customer groups are not an access concept. They govern prices and visibility in selling, not
access within the system.
