Subscriptions at a glance

Purpose
Subscriptions run sold rights of use — subscriptions and licences — across their lifecycle.
Alongside contracts and retainers they are the third source of recurring revenue. The difference from a contract is the obligation: a subscription entitles to use, a contract commits to work.
Scope
- Signing, renewal, plan change and expiry with an adjustable status catalogue.
- A revenue view as its own permission — managing and seeing turnover are separate.
- Feeding recurring billing plans.
Interplay
Plans run through billing; items and prices come from the product catalogue and price determination.
Limits
- No technical licence enforcement. The module manages the commercial side; whether software
checks a licence key is up to the software.
- Managing does not mean seeing revenue — that is deliberate.
- A subscription consumes no quotas. Anyone needing that takes a contract.
